Something to kickstart a project I’ve had in the works for a while now. I’m calling it One Cat’s Treasure.
If you know me at all, you know that I can’t stand waste. The amount of stuff that gets thrown away rather than being recycled or donated in much of the developing world is a serious pet peeve of mine. I came up with this project as a small attempt to counter that mentality, make something pretty in the process, and hopefully encourage others to join in, in whatever ways they can. The name conflates my username and the old adage “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”.
For today’s entry, a dragon made of 100% recycled materials, plus a touch of paint and hot glue. In another life, its components made up:
- a few burnt-out circuitboards
-a pair of defective bluetooth keyboards
-three non-functional laptop cooling fans
-a rusty old pair of bike brakes
-a few bits of scrap wire
-and other small bits and bobs
It’s 17cm tall, has a distance of about 37cm from wingtip to wingtip, and will be on sale in my store as soon as I figure out just what it’ll take to ship it safely. As a bonus, I’ll be donating 10% of profits from this and any future OCT projects to Oxfam GB, who do great work addressing a multitude of issues ranging from climate change to humanitarian aid worldwide.
